Presentation of the social science Thesis PSL Prize

prix de these sciences humaines et sociales

To reward the best doctoral work in five areas of the humanities and social sciences, PSL launched last November a SHS dissertation prize.

Five PSL awards in the Humanities and Social Sciences will reward the best doctoral work, supported by Laboratories of Excellence Hastec, Tepsis and TransferS and by Interdisciplinary Strategic Research Initiatives (IRIS) Creation, cognition and society, Global Studies, Governance Analytics and Scripta. The awards will be presented in the presence of Patrick Boucheron, professor at the Collège de France, and president of the jury, who will give a conference on this occasion.

The human sciences and their aim of truth, lecture by Patrick Boucheron

At the moment when one worries - and no doubt, with reason - about the progress - sometimes insidious and sometimes vehement - of the post-truth, how do we define truthfulness in the works of human sciences? Does it result only from a methodical discourse of a society on itself, from a scholarly expertise subject to evaluation, or, in a more humanistic way, from a certain aim of truth? These reflections will be devoted to defining the latter within the framework of an epistemology common to the scientific disciplines.
