Bubbles at the crossroads between science & the arts

Les bulles : entre science et art

Emmanuelle Rio et Frederic Restagno (Université Paris Saclay, Laboratoire de Physique des Solides) will give an experimental conference.

Soap bubbles inspire fascination. Performers know how to hold giant bubbles on stage. The same bubbles can also be generate great moments of frustration when one tries, at home, to mix dishwashing liquid with anything else in an attempt to imitate the bubble liquid that kids have just spilled.

The bubbles, present in our daily life, are also at the origin of modern research questions. This will be illustrated by Emmanuelle Rio and Frederic Restagno (Université Paris Saclay), who will answer some questions about the mechanisms of stabilization, rupture and formation of soap bubbles. The conference will also be the occasion for a discussion between researchers and artists, who will let us appreciate together all the beauty contained in the bubbles.
