European Researchers' Night 2020

Nuit européenne des Chercheurs

Come and join us for the 16th European Researchers' Night, which will focus on "little noctural secrets". You will meet researchers and players in the field of research. The event will be entirely online.

During this event, you can join a wealth of activities and talking workshop to discover the secrets of the concealed labs and the job of researchers!

PROGRAM

  1. Spotlight on culture

A photo full of clues appears on your screen. You have 20 seconds to observe it and discover the clues of the author on their research in the cultural field. When the photo disappears, discuss your hypotheses with the researcher and discover their little research secrets!

30-min sessions at: 6:30 p.m, 7:30, 8:30 and 9:15 

  1. National speed searching

On the same principle as speed dating, try to decipher in a few minutes, the research conducted by a researcher by asking them all your questions! After 8 minutes, not one more, the discussion stops! And you meet a new researcher. Come and participate in a 40-minute session to meet 3 different researchers working all over France!

30-min sessions every 40 min between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.

  1. Explore a lab with a flashlight

How does a research lab look like? Come and explore a live exploration under the light of a flashlight; you can ask any question to the person who works in it.

Between 7 p.m. and 7:30. Registration is not required, no limited spots

  1. The Artificial Intelligences (IA) and their secrets

What is at stake when developing AI? During the short collaborative conferences, you can tell your ideas and fill a word cloud with the other participants and you can listen to a specialist who will decipher the AI for you.

30-min sessions at 8 p.m, 8:45 and 9:30

  1. Research and secrets in pop culture

How do movies, series and comics talk about research and what are the mysteries about research? Where are the most secret research laboratories hidden? What research is  carried out in thel? Who deciphers the secrets? Let's collectively find out research secrets in popular culture through a participative and friendly immersion in your favorite cultural references!

This collaborative picture will be investigated by our speakers: Roland Lehoucq, Elena Pasquinelli

  1. Experiments with EPICS

Get ready for action: the EPICS student organization will show you amazing experiments you can run simultaneously from home, with materials available in your home. Ready to experiment? Let's do it!

From 6:30 to 7:30 Registration is not required, no limited spots

  1. Mystery Picture (activity in english only)

A mystery picture is presented by a PhD student. You then have few minutes to make hypothesis through a chat and imagine what the research of this student is. He will then reveal what are the secrets behind this picture.

From 8pm to 9pm No registration needed, unlimited participant number  

  1. Broadcast on Radio Campus Paris

You can hear the broadcast about the Researchers' Night on Radio Campus Paris. This is the opportunity to meet other researchers and find out further information about research.

Between 6 and 7 p.m.

  • Full-time activities with other channels

You can watch vids by doctoral students at ESPCI - PSL and they will explain to you, in a few minutes, what their dissertation is about

You can drop by the online café to publish a picture of your drink, as though we were all sharing the event in-person!
