Jérôme Zonder: Portraits

Expo Jérôme Zonder

The collections and the teaching of drawing contribute to the reputation of the Beaux-Arts de Paris. In the spring of 2019, the Drawing Cabinet inaugurates a new cycle dedicated to the school's graduate artists who are making their mark on the international scene. In 2019, Jérôme Zonder is in the spotlight. He is a great success with the public for his renewed approach to drawing.

Jérôme Zonder wanted to explore the portraits, with regard to two works in the collection: the Portrait d'Henri Regnault by Thomas Couture, a recent acquisition, and the Portrait de Pierre Gillet by Hyacinthe Rigaud. Eighteen portraits, three of which are monumental in size, are displayed on the walls of the drawing cabinet, with the first names corresponding to the models as titles, not to mention, of course, the artist's name, when it comes to a self-portrait.
