[Next sessions postponed] When ignorance spurs science

L'ignorance stimule la science

"We judge the value of science by the ignorance it defines", Stuart Firestein

Research observes, explains, predicts, proves. But, just as much, research hesitates, doubts, gropes. It feeds on ignorance, since it is born of all the still unresolved questions from researchers around the world. Research also produces ignorance, since each discovery, each new result raises new questions and opens up paths that are sometimes unknown. We want to highlight the scientific value of ignorance by devoting a seminar to it, open to all PSL students interested in research careers. Top-level researchers from all disciplines will present their vision and practice of ignorance. The seminar will thus offer an open debate over scientific activity based on a question which is shared by all disciplines.

No scientific background is required to attend the seminar.

Program of the seminar :

Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.

The first session will take place on January, Thursday 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Salle des Actes (45 rue d'Ulm). We will host Karol Beffa, composer, pianist and musicologist, Lecturer at the Ecole Normale Supérieure PSL.
