Director of the French School of Asian Studies Christophe Marquet was appointed Director of the French School of Asian Studies (EFEO) in 2018. He is Professor of Japanese Art History, a discipline which he has taught at the National Institute for Oriental Languages and Civilizations since 1992. He was Head of the EFEO Research Centre in Tokyo between 2004 and 2008, Director of the French Institute of Research on Japan (UMIFRE 19) based at the Maison franco-japonaise from 2011 to 2016, and Director of the East Asian Research and Administration Unit (USR 3331, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taipei) of the French National Center for Scientific Research. He spent fifteen years in Japan conducting research on the history of painting and publishing in Japan and East Asia between the 17th and 19th centuries.
