The University of Chicago, a prestigious American university claiming 92 Nobel prizes laureates, and PSL, the first French university in the top 50 rankings of the World's universities, signed the memorandum of a strategic agreement on November 14, 2019 in Paris.

A delegation from the University of Chicago, led by its President, Professor Robert J. Zimmer, met on Thursday, November 14, with the President of Université PSL, Professor Alain Fuchs, to sign a cooperation agreement. Planned for five years (2019 - 2024), the agreement will grow opportunities for academic, scientific and cultural exchanges between the two universities.

This new agreement is based on a long-lasting collaboration between certain PSL members, including the Ecole Normale Supérieure, the Université Paris-Dauphine (both PSL component schools), the Collège de France (PSL associate member) and UChicago.

The cooperation agreement will make it possible to develop new joint research and training projects in many fields (mathematics, economics, literature, etc.) and to implement student mobility and university staff exchange programs.

The signing of this agreement comes a few months after UChicago decided to build its Europe - Middle East - Africa regional headquarters in the 13th arrondissement of Paris. This new campus, spanning 9,500 m², will be built by 2022 and will expand UChicago's activities in Paris, where it already owns a Center with 250 students.

Says Alain Fuchs, President of Université PSL: "I am very proud and honored to sign this agreement with the University of Chicago, which both strengthens joint initiatives between our two universities and creates new opportunities for collaboration for our students and researchers."

Says Robert J. Zimmer, President of the University of Chicago: "Faculty at the University of Chicago have developed meaningful partnerships and scholarly exchanges with many of the eminent institutions that are part of PSL.This historic agreement offers opportunities to expand these existing collaborations, and to amplify the research agendas of UChicago and PSL faculty to enrich intellectual life for both institutions."
