Call for applications for research visits to University College London (UCL)

As part of their partnership, PSL University and University College London launch an annual call for applications for research stays at the partner institution. This year, the partnership has been strengthened by a tripartite agreement signed on February 29 between PSL, UCL and the French Embassy in the UK.

UCL

The call is open to all disciplines, and two PhD students from PSL University will be selected for stays of 4 to 8 weeks.A similar call is open to UCL PhD students for research stays at PSL.
Thanks to the support of the French Embassy in the UK, a 3rd PhD student will be selected for a 4-week stay.

Conditions:

  • The stay will last between 4 and 8 weeks and must end no later than December 15, 2024.
  • All doctoral students registered at Université PSL are eligible.
  • The candidate must contact the laboratory of his/her choice at UCL to ensure that it is ready to welcome him/her and integrate him/her into its structure for the entire duration of his/her stay (see application form to be completed).

Payment :

Accommodation costs for the duration of the stay will be covered by PSL via a grant of 600 euros per week maximum. A return train ticket from Paris to London will also be covered.

Remarks :

  • The actual dates of stay, once validated with UCL, cannot be changed.
  • UK entry arrangements post Brexit:
    • since October 1, 2021, passports have become compulsory to enter the UK. Stays of less than 6 months will not require a visa.  
    • Candidates will need to find out about current travel conditions between France and the UK before preparing their trip.
  • Candidates are required to have health insurance in line with the UK's new Brexit-related provisions, and civil liability cover for the duration of their stay.

Application procedure and selection criteria:

Selection criteria :

  • Quality of the proposed project
  • Relevance of the project to cooperation between PSL and UCL
  • Coherence of the internship project with the candidate's doctoral program
  • Existing links with the partner and any previous collaboration
  • Fluency in English

The jury will be made up of representatives from PSL, UCL and the French Embassy in the UK. Results will be announced no later than May 24, 2024.
