As part of its lecture series, the Research Chair on Beauty studies will invite numerous experts each year to address top-ics specific to the concept of the beauty. Those experts, drawing on experience gained in an array of scientific and artistic disciplines, will share their reflections and current research and invite us to rethink our relationnship with beauty.

Beauty & Truth

Can we think about beauty in terms of truth? or truth in terms of beauty? For its inaugural confer-ence, the Research Chair on Beauty studies asks three noted figures from different disciplinary backgrounds to tell how they grapple with concepts of beauty and truth in their scientific or artistic practices.

Beauty of the Body

The Research Chair on Beauty studies invites three experts on the body – a tattoo artist, a performer and a researcher – to contrast their unique perspectives on the narratives that bodies can produce. Artists and research-ers come together on stage for an informal discussion about multiple aspects of the beauty of the body.

Call for contributions

The Research Chair on Beauty studies and its junior researchers seminar are launching a call for contributions geared towards doctoral and post- doctoral fellows within PSL institutions.

Who is this call for ?

This call is addressed to all those who wish to participate in a collective and interdisciplinary reflection on the question of beauty and all the related themes: attractiveness, taste, accuracy, brightness, harmony, or a contrario, ugliness, deformity, discordance, etc.

All disciplinary fields of research are eligible. Proposals involving exact and natural sciences (mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, biology, etc.) and the creative arts (practice-based) are strongly encouraged.

After studying the proposals for contributions, a programme for the academic year 2020/2021 will be set up, at the rate of one session every two months.
