Université PSL and UCL consolidate their scientific collaboration and doctoral mobility program

Since the first agreement was signed in 2018 and renewed in 2022, the partnership with UCL has co-financed 4 joint research projects and around ten visits by PhD students to partner labs.In addition, a dozen doctoral students from PSL and UCL have been selected to take part in two days of workshops organized in June 2023 by the automorph network (ESCPI Paris - PSL) at the London Design Biennale, in conjunction with UCL's Bartlett School of Architecture.  

PSL and UCL organized a joint workshop on February 28 to take stock of the collaboration, rekindle links between scientific communities and consider joint responses to European calls for proposals in fields where the two partners have complementary strengths.  

Among the PSL scientists taking part were Perig Pitrou (Collège de France and coordinator of the Ville métabolisme chair at PSL University), Benoit Roman (ESPCI Paris - PSL and coordinator of the Automorph network), Isabelle Ryl (Director of the PrAIRIe Institute), Roberta Zarcone (Ecole nationale d'architecture Paris Malaquais) and Samuel Bianchini (Ecole nationale des Arts Décoratifs).

Structured around three workshops, the workshop highlighted the originality of the research underway, which underpins the very special nature of the partnership; the current dynamics of research at the frontier between science and the arts; and the prospects for collaboration around emerging themes in which the two partners have highly complementary strengths, such as AI.

Following this meeting, a new tripartite agreement was signed between PSL University, UCL and the French Embassy in the UK. It will further strengthen the already rich partnership between PSL and UCL by consolidating the resources dedicated to mobility programs for doctoral students.
